1994 revolutionierte System Shock (entwickelt von Looking Glass) mit der spannenden Mischung aus Rollenspiel und Actionaspekten das damals noch junge Shooter Genre. 1999 erschien der lang ersehnte Nachfolger System Shock 2, welcher von der Fachpresse ebenfalls mit Lob überhäuft wurde. Die Entwickler von Looking Glass teilten sich bei System Shock 2 die Entwicklung mit den Jungs von Irrational Games (heute 2K Boston). 7 Jahre später erscheint nun endlich der inoffizielle Nachfolger Bioshock. Genre-Revolution oder simpler Shooter?

Schnell haben sich die Entwickler von Piranha Bytes einen Namen über die europäischen Grenzen hinaus mit Ihren beiden Rollenspielen gemacht und entsprechend hoch waren die Erwartungen für den dritten Teil.
